Billing

CmdCal billing is usage-based with three plan tiers. Subscriptions are managed through Paddle and can be controlled from the dashboard settings page.

Annual billing saves 20% compared to monthly.

Metering Model

Usage is counted by successful render operations per calendar month. Preflight-only calls and failed renders do not count. On the free tier, reaching the 5-document cap blocks further renders until the next billing period. On paid tiers, rendering continues and overage is billed per document.

See Usage for details on what is counted and how to monitor consumption.

Managing Your Subscription

Free plan with monthly billing

Navigate to /dashboard/settings to view your current plan and billing controls.

Free tier users see:

  • Current plan details and feature list
  • Monthly/annual toggle for the upgrade price
  • Upgrade to Pro button that opens a Paddle checkout

Annual billing toggle with -20% discount

Paid tier users see:

  • Current plan and subscription status (active, trialing, past due, canceling)
  • Manage Billing button that opens the Paddle customer portal

Upgrading

Click Upgrade to Pro (or select Business) from the settings page. The checkout flow:

  1. Select monthly or annual billing interval.
  2. Complete payment in the Paddle checkout overlay.
  3. On success, you are redirected back to /dashboard/settings?checkout=success.
  4. The Paddle webhook updates your organization's tier within seconds.

Downgrades are handled through the Paddle billing portal, not through the checkout flow.

Subscription States

StatusMeaning
activeSubscription is current
trialingIn a trial period (shown as a "Trial" badge)
past_duePayment failed -- update your payment method
cancelingScheduled to cancel at period end (date shown)

Payment Methods

Paddle supports credit/debit cards and PayPal. Payment method management is handled entirely through the Paddle billing portal -- CmdCal does not store payment details.

Invoices

Access invoices through the Manage Billing button, which opens the Paddle customer portal. Invoices are generated by Paddle for each billing cycle and overage charges.

Cancellation

Cancel your subscription from the Paddle billing portal. Access remains active until the end of the current billing period. After cancellation, your organization reverts to the free tier.
